Lt Gen Pratik Sharma Evaluates Preparedness at JAK LI Centre in Srinagar

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, the Commander-in-Chief of the Northern Command, conducted a comprehensive review of operational preparedness in Jammu and Kashmir. His visit on Thursday encompassed the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK LI) Regimental Centre and a Territorial Army Battalion in Srinagar, emphasizing training, logistics, and readiness for contemporary multi-domain operations.

During his inspection at the JAK LI Regimental Centre, Lt Gen Sharma evaluated the training facilities and engaged with Agniveers, who are recruits under the Agnipath scheme, as well as trainers and the Bhairav Battalion personnel. He commended the recruits' dedication and highlighted the necessity of adjusting to the evolving demands of warfare.
The Army Commander also examined the logistic systems of the Territorial Army Battalion, scrutinizing automated processes and the unit's ability to confront emerging threats, including those related to cyber, space, and information warfare.
Having assumed leadership of the Northern Command on November 1, 2024, Lt Gen Sharma's prior roles include serving as Director General Military Operations and Director General of Information Warfare at Army Headquarters in New Delhi. His vast operational experience underscores the significance of his firsthand assessment of vital training facilities in the region.

This visit aligns with the preparations for the forthcoming Unit Headquarters Quota (UHQ) Rally Bharti 2025, set to take place at the JAK LI Regimental Centre from August 29 to September 5. The rally will offer special entry opportunities to dependents of Army personnel and talented athletes.
Launched in 2022, the Agnipath scheme has integrated over 46,000 Agniveers by 2024, effectively reducing the force's average age profile. Designed with training cycles spanning 10 to 24 weeks, the initiative aims to boost operational agility and better prepare units for future combat scenarios.

In his address to the officers and troops, Lt Gen Sharma praised their professionalism and reaffirmed the Northern Command’s dedication to sustaining combat readiness in the strategically critical region of Jammu and Kashmir. He encouraged all ranks to persist in achieving excellence in both operational and administrative capacities.
