General Dhiraj Seth Felicitates Three Indian Army Veterans with Yoddha Seva Samman in Ahilyanagar

Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, November 3, 2026: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth felicitated three retired Indian Army personnel with the Yoddha Seva Samman during his visit to Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, recognising their post-retirement contributions to nation-building, social welfare and community development.

The honour was conferred under the theme “Yoddha Seva Samman – Karm Se Gaurav, Seva Se Vijay” (Honour Through Action, Victory Through Service), which highlights the continued service rendered by former soldiers after they leave uniform. The ceremony was aimed at acknowledging veterans who have remained active in public life and have used their experience to support wider society.

The three veterans recognised were Brigadier Santosh Kurup, Sena Medal (Retd), Colonel Sunil Ramdas Rajdeo (Retd), and Havildar Laxman Jagnnath Andhale (Retd). Each was cited for work in a different area, reflecting the range of roles veterans can play after military service.

Brigadier Santosh Kurup, SM (Retd), was honoured for his role in training Maharashtra Police commandos in counter-Naxal operations. Using his operational experience, he has helped strengthen the skills of police personnel involved in counter-insurgency and internal security duties. His work was presented as an example of how military expertise can continue to serve the country beyond active service.

Colonel Sunil Ramdas Rajdeo (Retd) received the recognition for his sustained efforts towards the welfare of military veterans, support for Veer Naris, and mentorship of young people. His contributions were noted for combining care for the wider military community with guidance and counselling for the next generation.

Havildar Laxman Jagnnath Andhale (Retd) was felicitated for efforts to empower underprivileged students through education and career guidance. His work has focused on helping young people overcome educational and socioeconomic barriers by offering support, direction and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

The Army said his recognition also draws attention to the impact that retired soldiers can have at the grassroots level, where their discipline, experience and sense of duty can influence the lives of young people and disadvantaged communities.

During the felicitation, General Dhiraj Seth praised the three veterans for their selfless service and continued dedication to the nation. He said their work reflected the values, character and commitment associated with the Indian Army.

The Army Chief also reiterated that a veteran remains a Yoddha, or warrior, even after leaving the uniform, and continues to serve the nation through meaningful action and engagement with society.

The Yoddha Seva Samman is intended to recognise the enduring bond between the Indian Army and its veterans, while also highlighting their contribution to national development after active service. Veterans of the Indian Army have traditionally played important roles in education, disaster management, social welfare, public administration, security training and community development.

Through their military background, leadership skills and sense of responsibility, retired soldiers often continue to contribute effectively in civilian roles. The recognition in Ahilyanagar brought that larger contribution into focus by honouring three veterans whose work has extended well beyond their service years.

By honouring Brigadier Santosh Kurup, Colonel Sunil Ramdas Rajdeo and Havildar Laxman Jagnnath Andhale, the Army acknowledged not only their individual efforts but also the broader role of veterans in helping build a stronger and more inclusive society.

The ceremony reflected the theme “Honour Through Action, Vijay Through Service,” reinforcing the message that a soldier’s commitment to the nation does not end with retirement from active duty.
