Vivek Bhagat Among 12 DANIPS Officers Given Additional DCP Charge in Delhi Police

New Delhi, October 5, 2026: The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has assigned the current duty charge of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police to 12 Selection Grade DANIPS officers of Delhi Police, including Vivek Bhagat, with immediate effect.

Bhagat, a 2018-batch DANIPS officer, was serving as Assistant Commissioner of Police and Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Connaught Place, in New Delhi district before being placed in the new arrangement. He is among the officers to whom the charge of Additional DCP has been assigned through an order issued by the Home Department of the Delhi government.

The other officers named in the order are Dr Vikas Sheokand, A. Venkatesh, Gursewak Singh, Renu Lata, Vidushi Kaushik, Manu Himanshu, Sakaria Mihir Pravinbhai, Garima Tiwari, Ashish Kumar, Manish Ladla and Rohit Gupta.

According to the order, the officers given the current duty charge will carry out only the routine functions attached to the post. They will not be authorised to exercise the statutory powers of an Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police. The arrangement is temporary and will remain in force until the Ministry of Home Affairs fills the Additional DCP posts on a regular basis.

The order also makes clear that the officers will not receive any additional pay during this interim period. They will not be entitled to claim the seniority, pay or allowances attached to the post of Additional DCP.

Senior police officers described the move as part of a routine administrative process. The proposal for assigning the charge had been processed earlier and applies to a batch of eligible DANIPS officers serving in Delhi Police.

Bhagat had drawn attention in July 2026 when he was assaulted by an aggressive mob during a large student demonstration led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) near Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
