Vice Admiral Alok Ananda Takes Command of Indian Naval Academy
Vice Admiral Alok Ananda, YSM, has taken over as the 13th Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala. He succeeds Vice Admiral Manish Chadha, AVSM, VSM, at the institution known for training future leaders of the Indian Navy.
Vice Admiral Ananda is an alumnus of the Naval Academy in Goa and specializes in Navigation and Direction. With a distinguished naval career spanning over 30 years, he has also completed his education at the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington and the National Defence College (NDC) in Thailand, providing him with considerable operational and strategic knowledge.
His career features a variety of command, instructional, and staff roles both at sea and ashore. Notably, he commanded the INS Ghorpad and the stealth guided missile frigate INS Satpura, showcasing his capabilities in maritime command and operational leadership.
An advocate for professional military education, Vice Admiral Ananda has been an instructor at several prestigious institutions, including the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, the Navigation and Direction School in Kochi, and the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington. His contributions have played a significant role in shaping future military leaders.
Within Naval Headquarters, he has held strategic positions such as Commodore Naval Operations and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy & Plans). These roles involved significant work in operational planning, maritime policy development, capability enhancement, and force planning for the Indian Navy.
Before his current appointment, he was the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet (FOCEF), where he led vital operational fleets of the Indian Navy. His leadership was key in managing deployments, maritime exercises, and ensuring mission readiness across the Indo-Pacific region, reinforcing India's maritime security.
As the new Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy, Vice Admiral Ananda will helm the training and development of cadets in various branches such as Executive, Engineering, Electrical, and Education. The Academy is the Indian Navy's main officer training institution, providing comprehensive education to prepare cadets for modern naval service.
His appointment underscores the Indian Navy's focus on experienced leadership in military education.
