Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar Steps Down as Head of Andaman and Nicobar Command

On May 25, 2026, Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, honored with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and Nau Sena Medal, stepped down as the commander of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC).

To commemorate his departure, the Vice Admiral laid a wreath at the Military Station Brichgunj and conducted a review of an Inter-Service Guard of Honour at INS Utkrosh.

Throughout his leadership, Vice Admiral Kochhar significantly contributed to improving the command's operational readiness, developing infrastructure, and fostering collaboration among the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, and the Indian Coast Guard.

His tenure was marked by an enhancement of the strategic role of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, India's sole Tri-Service Operational Command, which is crucial for protecting India's maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region, as noted by officials.

Following his successful command, Vice Admiral Kochhar is set to take on the significant role of Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, positioning him among the top ranks of the Indian Navy's leadership.
