Uttarakhand Governor and Central Command Chief Discuss National Security and Veteran Welfare
Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd), PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, recently held a courtesy meeting with Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, who serves as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Central Command, at Lok Bhavan.
During the meeting, both senior officials had the opportunity to discuss strategic matters, emphasizing Uttarakhand's pivotal role in India's national security structure. Given the state's extensive international borders and strategic location in the Himalayan region, the dialogue focused on the changing security environment and the significance of ensuring strong defence readiness.
The leaders also talked about the evolving national security scenario, addressing emerging strategic challenges. They highlighted the necessity for ongoing cooperation between the civil administration and the Armed Forces to enhance security and resilience.
An important topic during their discussions was the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families. The leaders emphasized the need to provide comprehensive support for veterans, focusing on welfare programs, improved service access, and recognizing their contributions to the nation. They also considered measures to improve the quality of life for the veteran community.
The meeting highlighted a mutual commitment to protecting national interests while prioritizing the needs of ex-servicemen. Uttarakhand, known for its significant representation of both active and retired Armed Forces personnel, continues to be integral to India's military heritage and defence strategy.
