UPSC Declares CAPF AC 2026 Written Result, Shortlists Candidates for PST/PET
The Union Public Service Commission has declared the written result of the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination, 2026, on 25 August 2026, opening the next phase of recruitment for candidates aspiring to join India’s central armed police organisations as Group ‘A’ officers. Candidates who took the written examination on 19 July 2026 can now check whether their roll numbers appear in the result PDF, which lists those provisionally shortlisted for the Physical Standards Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET).
The examination is a key entry route into officer-level posts in the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). The written result is only the first major filter in a selection process that also includes physical tests, medical examination and interview.
Result released in PDF; more than 1,600 shortlisted
UPSC has published the result in PDF format, containing the roll numbers of candidates who have qualified for the next stage. According to media reports cited in connection with the result, more than 1,600 candidates have been shortlisted for the physical stage. Their candidature remains provisional and will continue to depend on verification of eligibility and other conditions at later stages of the recruitment process.

Vacancies across forces
The 349 vacancies notified for CAPF AC 2026 are spread across five forces, with the largest number in the BSF and CRPF. The force-wise breakup is as follows: BSF 108, CRPF 106, CISF 70, SSB 53 and ITBP 12. As per government policy, 10% of the vacancies are reserved for Ex-Servicemen.

How candidates can check the result
The result can be accessed through UPSC’s official website, upsc.gov.in, under the “Written Results” or “What’s New” section. Candidates need to open the link titled “Written Result: Central Armed Police Forces (ACs) Examination, 2026” and download the PDF, which is generally named WR-CAPF-2026-Roll-Engl-250826.pdf. They can then use the search function, or Ctrl + F on a computer, to locate their roll number. The result PDF is also available on the upsconline.nic.in portal.
15-day mandatory update window on UPSC portal
UPSC has made it compulsory for all qualified candidates to complete an online update process within 15 days of the result declaration, which means the window is expected to run until around 9 September 2026. During this period, candidates must log in to https://upsconline.nic.in and update a range of details, including their educational qualification status, whether they are appearing or have appeared in the qualifying examination, and upload proof of passing the examination.
The portal update also requires candidates to verify or enter correspondence and permanent address details, provide higher educational qualifications and achievements if applicable, and fill in employment details or service experience. They must also indicate their force preference and update marital status, parental details, debarment information and previous examination details. Where applicable, candidates must upload the OBC/EWS annexure and complete the socio-economic questionnaire before finally submitting the online form and Detailed Application Form-related details.
UPSC has warned that failure to complete this mandatory process within the stipulated period will make the candidate ineligible for PST/PET and the later stages of selection. The commission has also stated that no correspondence will be entertained on this issue.
SSB to conduct physical tests
The Ministry of Home Affairs has designated the Sashastra Seema Bal as the nodal force for conducting the PST and PET. Details of the date, time and venue will be uploaded on the SSB recruitment website, recruitment.ssb.gov.in, and e-admit cards will also be sent to the registered email IDs of candidates. Aspirants have been advised to check spam folders as well.
For the physical stage, candidates will have to carry their e-admit card, a hard copy of the finally submitted Detailed Application Form, and original photo identity proof such as Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or voter ID.

Relaxations in height and chest measurements are available for candidates from hill areas, including Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras and Marathas, as well as Scheduled Tribes and certain other categories, subject to the production of valid certificates as specified in the official notification.

Candidates who clear the PST will move on to the PET, and those who clear both stages will be called for the Medical Standards Test. Pregnant women candidates of 12 weeks or more will be declared temporarily unfit and re-examined after confinement, in accordance with the rules.
What comes after physical tests
After the PST, PET and Medical Standards Test, shortlisted candidates will face the Personality Test or interview, which carries 150 marks. The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks secured in the written examination and the interview. Document verification will also be conducted at the interview stage, including checks of original certificates for age, educational qualification and category status. Category certificates must have been issued on or before the closing date of application, 12 March 2026.
UPSC will upload the marksheets of all candidates, including those who qualified and those who did not, only after the final result is declared. These marksheets will remain available on the commission’s website for 30 days.
What shortlisted candidates should do now
Candidates who have made it through the written stage are being advised to complete the portal update process without waiting for the last date, begin focused physical preparation immediately, and keep all original documents and certificates ready in an orderly manner. They should continue checking both the UPSC website and the SSB recruitment portal for updates, and ensure that their registered email ID and mobile number remain active because all communication will be sent through those channels.
The Assistant Commandant examination remains one of the main recruitment routes into leadership positions in the Central Armed Police Forces, and the declaration of the written result now shifts attention to the physical and interview stages that will decide the final selection.
