Unified Joint Exercise Sudarshan Vayu Sanchar Highlights India's Air Defence Capabilities
India's Southern Command has showcased its strategic vision of Jointness, Atmanirbharta, and Innovation (JAI) through a significant joint air defence exercise named Exercise Sudarshan Vayu Sanchar, conducted in the Desert Sector as a component of Exercise Trishul. This event highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Army, Navy, and Air Force in reshaping the country's air defence framework through the integration of technology and precision.
The large-scale exercise successfully united Army Air Defence units, Indian Air Force elements, and naval surveillance components under a cohesive command structure. Operating within an integrated control and reporting network, these forces demonstrated capabilities in real-time threat detection, identification, and engagement. The joint operation validated crucial elements of airspace management, inter-service coordination, and multi-domain command integration, essential for establishing a robust and layered air defence system.
Amid rapidly evolving aerial threats, Exercise Sudarshan Vayu Sanchar illustrated the benefits of combining sensor data, AI-enabled tracking, and automated decision-making to enhance situational awareness and responsiveness. The use of indigenous radar systems, AI-driven algorithms, and secure communication links underscored India's technological self-reliance, a key aspect of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The successful integration of these indigenous platforms with existing military infrastructure underscored the progress towards network-centric air defence, highlighting the importance of speed, precision, and operational flexibility.
Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, praised the professionalism and synchronization of all participating units. He noted that true superiority in air defence is achieved not solely through advanced weaponry but through effective integration, communication, and shared operational understanding.
This exercise effectively translated the JAI vision from concept to combat, reinforcing jointness through seamless inter-service coordination, promoting Atmanirbharta with indigenous systems, and fostering innovation through a technology-driven operational approach.
The demonstration reaffirmed India's dedication to maintaining secure, synchronized, and sovereign airspace, thereby strengthening the country's defence readiness to meet the challenges of modern warfare.
