Tributes Honour Wing Commander Syal at Sulur Following Tejas Crash at Dubai Air Show

The body of Wing Commander Namansh Syal, who died in the unfortunate HAL Tejas crash during the Dubai Air Show, was transported to Air Force Station Sulur near Coimbatore on Sunday morning. A respectful wreath-laying ceremony took place at the base, with senior officers and civil authorities present to pay their final respects.

Wing Commander Syal was a member of No. 45 Squadron, known as the Flying Daggers, stationed at Air Force Station Sulur—one of the two leading Indian Air Force squadrons operating the indigenous LCA Tejas aircraft.

Officials stated that the officer’s remains were initially taken to the IAF Hospital in Coimbatore late on Saturday and kept in the mortuary before being transferred to the tarmac at Air Force Station Sulur around 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan, senior IAF officers, and members of the Flying Daggers Squadron paid tribute to the deceased pilot. The ceremony underscored the Air Force’s profound respect for the officer’s dedication, professionalism, and ultimate sacrifice.

Following the tribute, the remains were flown to Himachal Pradesh, Wing Commander Syal’s home state, where the last rites will be performed with full military honors.

The incident has left a somber mark on the aviation community, prompting tributes from across the nation as the IAF grieves the loss of one of its most skilled fighter pilots.
