Tata Advanced Systems Begins WhAP 8×8 Armoured Vehicle Deliveries to Moroccan Armed Forces

Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has successfully delivered the initial batch of WhAP 8×8 wheeled armoured vehicles to the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), marking a significant achievement in the defense industrial partnership between India and Morocco.

These vehicles are being manufactured at a newly established TASL facility in Berrechid, Morocco, which is set to fulfill all orders for the Moroccan Army. TASL celebrated the delivery as an important milestone in a post on X, emphasizing the platform's demonstrated capabilities and the effectiveness of local production in Morocco. The timely deliveries highlight the swift industrial scaling of the Berrechid plant to meet FAR's operational needs.

The WhAP (Wheeled Armoured Platform) program is a collaborative effort developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Tata Advanced Systems. The Berrechid manufacturing facility was inaugurated in September 2025, with India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Morocco’s Minister Delegate for National Defence Administration, Abdelatif Loudyi, in attendance.

Occupying nearly 20,000 square meters, the plant commenced operations significantly ahead of schedule and marks the first industrial endeavor by a private Indian defense firm on the African continent. Currently, approximately one-third of the vehicle’s components are produced locally, with plans for further increasing local content over time.

The WhAP 8×8 is a versatile combat vehicle equipped with a monocoque hull, scalable ballistic and mine protection, independent suspension, and a centralized tire pressure control system. It can be outfitted with remote weapon stations of different calibers, anti-tank guided missiles, and is adaptable for various mission roles, including troop transport, command and control, medical evacuation, and mortar carrier variants.

This delivery highlights India's expanding footprint in defense exports, enhances cooperation between southern nations in the defense sector, and positions Tata Advanced Systems as a significant player in the global market for next-generation armoured vehicles.
