Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), has extended her congratulations to the 60 Parachute Field Hospital for its remarkable humanitarian efforts during Operation Sagar Bandhu in Sri Lanka.

The unit from the Indian Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) was stationed in Mahiyanganaya from December 2 to 12, 2025, following extensive damage caused by a powerful cyclone. Despite facing challenging field conditions, the 85-member medical team provided rapid and comprehensive humanitarian aid to those affected in the region.

Throughout their mission, the team offered medical, surgical, and dental services to over 7,000 civilians, addressing various injuries, illnesses, and public health challenges that emerged after the disaster. Their prompt response, professional skills, and compassionate approach significantly eased the suffering of those in the cyclone-ravaged area.

The Sri Lanka Army formally acknowledged the unit for its exceptional contribution, underscoring the high standards of professionalism, readiness, and humanitarian spirit displayed by the Indian military medical personnel.

In her message of congratulations, Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin emphasized that the mission embodied the foundational values of the Armed Forces Medical Services — perpetual training, preparedness, and humanity. She remarked that operations like these affirm India’s lasting dedication to providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief in the region.
