Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin Acknowledges Military Hospital Jammu's Excellence in Operation Sindoor

Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, who serves as the Director General of the Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), paid a noteworthy visit to Military Hospital Jammu on June 22. This visit highlights the hospital's crucial contributions to advanced casualty care during Operation Sindoor, a significant cross-border counter-terror operation initiated by India on May 7, 2025.
The visit formed part of Surgeon Vice Admiral Sarin's ongoing evaluations of frontline medical units. Welcomed by the hospital's Commandant, she received an extensive briefing on the facility's operations during both peacetime and in the midst of intense combat. She commended the staff for their effective and professional management of sensitive trauma cases during Operation Sindoor, despite operating under high-pressure conditions.

In a gesture of recognition for their outstanding efforts, Surgeon Vice Admiral Sarin awarded the DGAFMS Unit Appreciation to the hospital. The staff received a ceremonial flag as a tribute to their service. The award ceremony was a notable event attended by senior officers from the armed forces, emphasizing the increasing importance of medical support in modern military operations.
Surgeon Vice Admiral Sarin, a graduate of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, possesses over thirty years of experience. Specializing in radiodiagnosis and radiation oncology, she has previously led major medical institutions such as INHS Asvini and AFMC. Her appointment to the DGAFMS position in October 2024 marked a significant milestone as she became the first woman to assume this role. Her visit to Jammu was characterized by direct interactions with both patients and staff, showcasing her proactive leadership approach.

Her presence underscores the growing involvement of women in high-ranking military positions and marks a transformation in India’s defense medical services. Recently, she was appointed to a Supreme Court-mandated National Task Force aimed at bolstering protections for medical professionals, further highlighting her impact on national health policy and military preparedness.
