Suresh Raina to Attend Subroto Cup 2026 U-17 Final in New Delhi as Guest of Honour

Former India cricketer Suresh Raina has thanked the Indian Air Force and the Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society after being named Guest of Honour for the grand finale of the Junior Boys (U-17) category and the closing ceremony of the 65th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2026.

The finale and closing ceremony are set to take place on September 24, 2026, at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi.

Raina said he felt privileged to be associated with the tournament, describing it as a platform that gives young footballers an opportunity to display their talent while also encouraging sportsmanship and grassroots sport. He said he was especially looking forward to spending time with Indian Air Force personnel and meeting the young athletes taking part in the event.

Before the tournament’s concluding events, Raina met Wing Commander S.S. Dhankar, the Honorary Secretary General of the Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society, along with members of his team. Raina said the meeting included an interactive discussion on sports.

He also conveyed his best wishes to the players competing in the 2026 edition and to the organising committee responsible for conducting the tournament.

The Subroto Cup is among India’s better-known school-level football tournaments and has long served as an early platform for young players to compete at a higher level and gain exposure in the formative stages of their careers.

Raina’s presence at the U-17 final is expected to add to the occasion as the 65th edition of the tournament comes to a close in New Delhi on September 24.
