The Indian Army’s Western Command has congratulated Subedar Gisho Nidhi of Kalateer Brigade after his strong showing at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria, where he won two medals and helped India secure the overall team title for the first time.

Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh, AVSM, SM**, Army Commander, Western Command, praised the fencer for his performance at the international event, recognising what the command described as an achievement that reflects both sporting excellence and professional discipline. Subedar Gisho Nidhi claimed a bronze medal in the individual competition before going on to win gold in the team event as part of the Indian contingent.

His contribution in the team event was central to India’s success in the competition, with the country finishing as the overall champion for the first time at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships.
