SSB Constable Abhishek Yadav Dies After Collapsing During Tear-Gas Training in Supaul
Supaul/Patna, September 14, 2026: A 25-year-old Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) constable died on Saturday night after collapsing during a tear-gas handling exercise at the force’s Recruit Training Centre (RTC) in Supaul district. He was taken to Nirmali Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed and is expected to be determined after the post-mortem report.
The deceased has been identified as Constable Abhishek Yadav, son of Pramod Yadav and a resident of Bhamrauli Ahir village under the Malpura police station area in Agra district, Uttar Pradesh. He was undergoing training at the SSB RTC in Supaul when the incident took place.
According to police, the incident occurred while a training session on the use and handling of tear gas was underway at the centre. Yadav suddenly lost consciousness and fell, prompting personnel at the training facility to rush him to the hospital. Despite the immediate response, medical staff at Nirmali Sub-Divisional Hospital pronounced him dead. His body was later taken into police custody and sent to Sadar Hospital in Supaul for post-mortem examination.
Kishanpur Station House Officer Gyan Ranjan Kumar confirmed the death and said the cause had not yet been established. “Police are awaiting the post-mortem report. The circumstances leading to the constable’s death are being investigated,” he said. Officials said further action would depend on the findings of the autopsy and related inquiries. There have been no reports that other trainees were similarly affected.
Yadav’s family has alleged that a tear-gas leak during the exercise caused him to faint. His elder brother, Vishal Yadav, said Abhishek had spoken to him by video call around noon on Saturday. During the conversation, Abhishek said training was nearing completion and that he planned to return home on leave on September 20, with the intention of surprising their parents by arriving in uniform. He also asked his brother not to tell their parents beforehand.
Later that evening, the family received news of his collapse and Pramod Yadav, along with other relatives, left for Bihar. The body was expected to reach the village on Monday morning. Relatives said Abhishek was the second of four brothers and had joined the SSB only a few months ago. Before that, his father had worked as an auto-tempo driver.
The family and villagers in Bhamrauli Ahir have been mourning since the news arrived. Police have informed the family and said they are examining all aspects of the incident. No official statement from SSB headquarters on the training protocol or the cause of death was immediately available. Authorities said the investigation would proceed on the basis of the post-mortem report and other inquiries.
