Southern Air Command Explores Drone-Based Logistics Solutions for Lakshadweep Islands

The Southern Air Command (SAC) of the Indian Air Force organized an Industry Outreach Programme and Exhibition focused on "Over-the-Sea Cargo Drones for Logistics and Mobility Solutions for Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands" in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.

The purpose of the event was to explore innovative logistics solutions using drones to improve connectivity and the efficiency of supply chains in India's island regions, with a particular focus on the Lakshadweep archipelago.

Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari, recipient of SYSM, PVSM, AVSM, VM, and currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, inaugurated the programme. Air Marshal Manish Khanna, who holds the titles of UYSM, AVSM, VM and is the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Air Command, delivered the keynote address.

The event was carried out in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), and it attracted significant participation from key stakeholders in the defense, aviation, and technology industries.

Experts from various industries, along with drone manufacturers and logistics innovators, presented advanced unmanned aerial systems intended for maritime transport, emergency response, and last-mile delivery to remote island areas.

This initiative highlights the Indian Air Force's dedication to promoting indigenization, fostering public-private partnerships, and embracing next-generation air mobility technologies to enhance logistics resilience and operational capabilities across the country's island territories.
