Son of Fallen Soldier Naik Pramod Kumar Singh Joins Rashtriya Military School Bengaluru

In a touching tribute to a soldier's enduring influence, Prateek, the son of the late Naik Pramod Kumar Singh of the Indian Army, has earned a place at the esteemed Rashtriya Military School (RMS) in Bengaluru. This accomplishment is a significant milestone for both the young boy and his mother, Nirma Kumari, who has shown immense strength in raising her children following the death of her husband in the line of duty in 2022.

Naik Pramod Kumar Singh served with distinction in the 221 Field Regiment, part of the Regiment of Artillery, which is one of the Indian Army's prominent combat support arms. Originally from Bampali village in Bihar's Bhojpur district, he realized his childhood ambition to serve the nation by joining the Indian Army in 2011. Over more than a decade, he rose to the rank of Naik through dedication and professionalism.

In December 2022, his unit was stationed in the challenging high-altitude terrain of North Sikkim near the Indo-China border. Known for its harsh winters and heavy snowfall, the region presents difficult operational conditions that make troop movements essential yet perilous.

On December 23, 2022, Naik Pramod Kumar Singh was part of a military convoy of three vehicles traveling from Chatten to Thangu for an operational task. The convoy included members from various Indian Army units such as the 221 Field Regiment, 285 Medium Regiment, 26 Mechanised Infantry, 25 Grenadiers, 8 Rajputana Rifles, 113 Engineer Regiment, and 1871 Field Regiment.

As the convoy navigated a sharp bend near Zema in North Sikkim, one of the vehicles, carrying 20 soldiers, skidded off the narrow mountain road and fell into a deep gorge. The tragic accident resulted in critical injuries for all occupants. Despite swift rescue efforts and evacuation to a military hospital, 16 courageous soldiers, including Naik Pramod Kumar Singh, lost their lives.

His martyrdom was mourned across the nation, leaving behind his parents, wife Nirma Kumari, a son, and a daughter. His sacrifice stands as a testament to the hardships and dangers faced daily by Indian soldiers serving in some of the world's most challenging environments.

Almost four years later, the family has reached an inspiring milestone. Prateek's acceptance into Rashtriya Military School Bengaluru, one of India's most prestigious military residential schools, reflects not only his dedication but also the unwavering support of his mother, who has courageously guided her children through immense personal loss.
