Smt Shobha Gupta Takes Office as Director General of Defence Estates

Smt Shobha Gupta, a senior officer from the 1990 batch of the Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES), took over as the Director General of Defence Estates (DGDE) on September 30, 2025.
Throughout her esteemed career, Smt Gupta has served in significant roles, such as the Chief Executive Officer of several Cantonment Boards and Defence Estates Officer in various Circles. Her previous positions also include Director of Defence Estates for the Central Command and Principal Director for both the South-West and Western Commands. She is well-regarded for her professional expertise, integrity, and vibrant leadership skills.
The Directorate General of Defence Estates is responsible for overseeing around 18 lakh acres of defence land throughout India. This organization functions under six Commands, 38 Defence Estates Circles, and 61 Cantonment Boards, playing an essential part in the administration of defence land and civic management within cantonment areas across the nation.
Smt Gupta’s appointment highlights a commitment to maintaining efficient, transparent, and professional management of defence estates, ensuring that strategic land assets are optimally used to support the operational needs of the Armed Forces.
