Siblings Divya and Digvijay Dhayal Carry Family Tradition Forward as Indian Army Lieutenants

In a remarkable demonstration of dedication to their country and family values, siblings Divya and Digvijay Dhayal have been commissioned as Lieutenants in the Indian Army. This achievement marks a significant milestone in their lives, reflecting their commitment to national service. Raised in a military family and trained as archers of high repute, the twins now add military service to their list of accomplishments.

The Dhayal twins are the children of Colonel Vikram Singh Dhayal, a current officer in the Indian Army. Their upbringing was steeped in discipline and patriotism, having been born in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and raised in Pune. They attended Army Public School and later pursued studies at Symbiosis Institute. Under their father's guidance, both achieved success in archery, securing medals at both national and international competitions.

Divya, the elder of the two by the timing of her commission, joined the Army in September 2023 after successfully passing the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination. She had previously gained recognition as a gifted archer, becoming a national champion at just 15 and representing India in major international tournaments, including the Archery World Cup and the World Archery Youth Championship.

Following Divya's path, Digvijay was commissioned as a Lieutenant on June 14, 2025, after completing his training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun. Like his sister, he boasts an impressive sporting record, having won medals in competitions such as the Asia Cup and other international archery events.

Their commissioning signifies more than personal success; it continues a proud family tradition. Their uncle, Captain Anil Dhayal, was martyred in Kashmir in 1998, a sacrifice that deeply impacted the family and inspired the next generation to pursue military service.

In comments to the media, Digvijay expressed his pride in following his sister into the Army, stating, “I like that she is my senior. We are twins… I will always be proud to salute her.” Divya shared similar sentiments, saying, “We took the same path, studied at the same college, and have entered the same occupation. I feel proud and happy. He got what he wanted.”

The story of Divya and Digvijay celebrates their shared determination and family legacy. From achieving sporting accolades for India to now donning the stars of Lieutenants, the siblings embody the spirit of the nation's youth, their dreams, and their commitment to serving a cause larger than themselves.
