On September 27, Rear Admiral Vivek Dahiya, NM, assumed the role of Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet (FOCWF) following a ceremonial parade. He succeeded Rear Admiral Rahul Vilas Gokhale, YSM, NM, in the position.

Rear Admiral Dahiya was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1993. He is a graduate of the Naval Academy in Mandovi, King's College London, the Naval War College in Goa, and the National Defence College in New Delhi.

Specializing in Navigation and Direction, Rear Admiral Dahiya has held various significant roles both at sea and on land, including commanding the frontline warships INS Karmuk and INS Chennai. His extensive operational and strategic expertise equips him well to command one of the Indian Navy’s most formidable operational units.

The Western Fleet, often described as the "Sword Arm" of the Indian Navy, is vital in protecting India’s maritime interests in the Arabian Sea and surrounding regions. Rear Admiral Dahiya's new leadership role is expected to maintain the Fleet’s high standards of operational readiness and excellence.
