Rear Admiral Iftekhar Alam Takes Command as Additional Director General, Warship Design Bureau in New Delhi
Rear Admiral Iftekhar Alam has taken over as the Additional Director General of the Warship Design Bureau (WDB) in New Delhi, a notable development in the Indian Navy’s efforts in ship design and capability enhancement.
Since his commissioning into the Indian Navy on November 26, 1994, Rear Admiral Alam has accumulated considerable experience in operational, technical, and command roles. He is a graduate of the Naval College of Engineering, the Naval War College in Goa, and Kenya's National Defence College.
As a skilled technologist, Rear Admiral Alam holds both an M Tech and a PhD in Electronics and Telecommunication. His extensive career includes various positions across afloat, staff, yard, and command roles, where he has significantly contributed to warship engineering, systems integration, and the enhancement of naval capabilities.
In his new position at the Warship Design Bureau, Rear Admiral Iftekhar Alam is anticipated to be instrumental in promoting indigenous warship design, fostering innovation, and integrating advanced technologies, aligning with the Indian Navy’s objective of achieving self-reliance and advancing toward a state-of-the-art maritime force.
