Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Indian Navy Memorial 'Nausena Shaurya Vatika' in Lucknow
On May 30, 2026, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Nausena Shaurya Vatika, a new memorial and heritage complex dedicated to the Indian Navy, located in Lucknow. Spanning two acres near the Ekana Cricket Stadium, this memorial celebrates the bravery, courage, and technological advancements of the Indian Navy.
The Vatika marks the second phase of the Nausena Shaurya Sangrahalaya and pays homage to the Navy's role in defending India's maritime boundaries and national interests.
During the inauguration, Rajnath Singh described the memorial as a symbol of national pride and patriotism, highlighting the Indian Navy's longstanding tradition of bravery and service. He also announced plans to install a submarine at the site, which will add to its educational and commemorative significance.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the event and stressed the importance of exhibiting military equipment and war trophies to instill respect for the Armed Forces among younger generations. He stated that Nausena Shaurya Vatika would become a significant center showcasing India's heritage, security, and military triumphs.
The Chief Minister highlighted the presence of equipment from the decommissioned INS Gomti, which served the nation until its retirement in 2022, now installed at the site along the Gomti River.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, emphasized the critical role of maritime security for India's economic prosperity and strategic interests, affirming the Navy's commitment to maintaining the safety of key sea lanes and trade routes.
Admiral Tripathi explained the rationale for establishing a naval memorial in a landlocked state by referencing Uttar Pradesh's historical connections to maritime activities. He noted the historical significance of rivers like the Ganga and Gomti in linking the region to the sea and the use of timber from Uttar Pradesh in shipbuilding centuries ago.
He also pointed out that Uttar Pradesh is a major contributor of officers, sailors, and Agniveers to the Indian Navy and houses a large number of naval veterans.
Officials have indicated that the Nausena Shaurya Vatika will serve as a vital platform for educating the public, especially the youth, about India's maritime heritage and the Indian Navy's operations in protecting national interests. The memorial is expected to become a key attraction, fostering awareness of maritime security and inspiring future generations to serve the nation.
