Punjab Mourning: Young Soldier Jobanjeet Singh Among 10 Killed in Doda Army Accident

A profound sense of mourning has descended upon Chanauli village in Punjab's Rupnagar district following the tragic death of 23-year-old Sowar Jobanjeet Singh, who was one of ten Indian Army personnel killed in a road accident in Doda.

The incident took place near Khani Top, approximately 25 kilometers from Bhaderwah, when a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Casspir vehicle, carrying 21 soldiers, lost control on a snow-covered road. The vehicle failed to navigate a sharp turn and plummeted into a gorge 200 feet deep.

Jobanjeet Singh, the only child of retired soldier Subedar Major Balbir Singh, had been part of the Indian Army since September 2019, serving with the 8 Cavalry, Armoured Unit (4 Rashtriya Rifles). His untimely passing has left his family and the local community in disbelief.

The tragedy is compounded by the fact that Jobanjeet was set to be married on March 1, with all wedding arrangements, including shopping, already completed. A period meant for celebration has instead become one of sorrow.

In a conversation with the media, his father, Balbir Singh, recalled speaking to his son just two days prior to the accident. "He told me he was going for an operation and would call me once he returned. Instead, we received the devastating news," he stated.

Balbir Singh also noted that his son was on a 72-hour operation and raised concerns about a transfer that, according to reports, had been delayed for several months. He called on authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances leading to the accident.

Residents described Jobanjeet as friendly, disciplined, and talented, with a bright future ahead. As news of his death circulated, grief spread through Chanauli, Nurpur Bedi, and nearby areas.

The community has been deeply affected by the loss of the young soldier, just weeks before a new phase of his life was to begin, highlighting the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families for the nation.
