Punjab Constable Gursimran Singh Achieves Indian Air Force Pilot Selection, Secures AFCAT AIR 52
In a remarkable tale of determination and perseverance, Punjab Police Constable Gursimran Singh has made the leap from police duty to being selected for the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force (IAF), an opportunity that will see him pilot military aircraft.
The 23-year-old, stationed in Mohali, achieved an All India Rank of 52 in the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) merit list, leading to his selection for pilot training at the Air Force Academy.
Gursimran had successfully navigated the stringent Services Selection Board (SSB) interview for an officer's commission in the Indian Air Force in December 2025. His admission into the Flying Branch signifies the fulfillment of a long-held ambition, built on years of dedication to serving the country.
Fourth Attempt Brings Success
This accomplishment is particularly noteworthy, considering it was Gursimran's fourth attempt at passing the SSB interview. Despite previous setbacks, he remained steadfast and continued his preparations while fulfilling his duties as a Punjab Police constable.
Originating from the Ropar district of Punjab, Gursimran joined the Punjab Police in August 2022. He managed to balance his professional responsibilities while furthering his education, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Centre for Distance and Online Education at Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Gursimran received guidance from retired Major General Yash Mor during his SSB interview preparations. Maj Gen Mor praised Gursimran's achievements as extraordinary.
Major General Mor, who mentored him online, encouraged Gursimran to embrace his journey authentically and with pride, given his aspirations to switch from a police constable to a military officer.

The DGP remarked that the department supports its skilled and educated personnel in pursuing higher career opportunities and expressed confidence in Gursimran's future success as an IAF officer.
Continuing a Growing Legacy
Gursimran's success follows similar accomplishments within the Punjab Police. In March 2024, constables Anmol Sharma and Lovepreet Singh were chosen to become commissioned officers in the Indian Army, having cleared the Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam and SSB interview while serving in the force.
The achievements of these constables, along with Gursimran's, underscore a trend of young police personnel actively seeking leadership roles in the Armed Forces.
