President Murmu Joins Historic Co-Pilot Sortie on LCH Prachand Helicopter

President Droupadi Murmu, serving as the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, participated in a momentous flight as a co-pilot in the domestically engineered Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) 'Prachand' at the Jaisalmer Air Force Station. This event, which took place just before the Indian Air Force's Exercise Vayu Shakti, emphasized India's progress in homegrown defense production.

The flight, conducted close to the India-Pakistan border, provided the President with an opportunity to conduct an aerial inspection of the firing range, showcasing the helicopter's operational proficiency in challenging environments. The LCH Prachand, built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is designed for high-altitude and extreme conditions and marks a significant achievement in India's pursuit of military self-sufficiency.

This event represents the third time President Murmu has engaged with cutting-edge military aircraft. She previously participated in a flight aboard a Sukhoi-30 MKI at Tezpur Air Force Station in Assam in April 2023 and in a Rafale fighter jet at Ambala in October of the same year. These experiences illustrate her dedication to comprehending the operational readiness of India's armed forces.

President Murmu's visit to Rajasthan, which began the preceding evening, includes observing the Vayu Shakti exercise, an exhibition of the Indian Air Force's firepower and accuracy. According to defense officials, the sortie highlighted the helicopter's sophisticated features, proving its effectiveness for combat missions in varied conditions.

The LCH Prachand, recently introduced into service, is designed for both anti-infantry and anti-armor operations, enhancing India's defense capabilities. This event not only boosts morale among military personnel but also underscores the critical role of indigenous innovation in ensuring national security.
