PM Modi Marks Diwali 2025 with Indian Navy Aboard INS Vikrant

Prime Minister Narendra Modi upheld his tradition of celebrating Diwali with India's armed forces by spending the festival aboard the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. The ship was stationed off the coasts of Goa and Karwar in the Arabian Sea. This occasion highlighted the Prime Minister's dedication to honoring the sacrifices of military personnel, as he described the event as a significant celebration of national unity and determination.

Addressing the naval crew, PM Modi expressed his gratitude for the chance to celebrate Diwali amidst the disciplined setting of the warship. He remarked, "I am fortunate to celebrate this holy festival of Diwali among all you brave soldiers of the Navy," acknowledging the unique experience of spending the night on the vessel. He compared the sun's reflection on the ocean to "Diwali lamps lit by brave soldiers," symbolizing the armed forces' enduring strength and vigilance.

The Prime Minister discussed the impressive capabilities of INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier, which can displace almost 45,000 tonnes and operate a fleet of up to 30 aircraft, including MiG-29K fighters and advanced helicopters. He commented, "The name INS Vikrant alone is enough to give sleepless nights to Pakistan," highlighting the carrier's contribution to India's maritime security. Modi also praised the coordinated efforts of the Army, Navy, and Air Force during Operation Sindoor, a precision strike on terror camps in Pakistan earlier this year, which he credited with forcing the adversary to yield.

During his visit, PM Modi witnessed an Air Power Demonstration on the flight deck, observing day and night operations of MiG-29K fighters, including takeoffs and landings on the short runway. The celebration featured a vibrant cultural program with patriotic songs, where the Prime Minister praised the personnel for their emotional attachment to national missions. He remarked, "These brave soldiers have been born in this very soil, have grown and flourished in this very soil," depicting the Navy's spirit as a reflection of India's collective discipline and pride.

This occasion marks the 11th consecutive Diwali that PM Modi has spent with troops since taking office in 2014, starting with a visit to the Siachen Glacier. Previous celebrations included engagements near the Indo-Pakistan border in Kutch and along the China border in Himachal Pradesh. On this occasion, he reiterated his annual message on social media, wishing the nation: "May this festival of lights illuminate our lives with harmony, happiness, and prosperity. May the spirit of positivity prevail all around us."

The event resonated widely, with world leaders and citizens across India partaking in Diwali celebrations, from grand illuminations in Ayodhya—setting two Guinness World Records with over 2.6 million diyas—to traditional Lakshmi Puja rituals emphasizing prosperity and ethical living. PM Modi's gesture serves as a poignant reminder of the armed forces' role in ensuring the nation's festive joy and security.
