Pakistan Frigate PNS Saif Visits Bangladesh Amid India's Naval Exercise in Bay of Bengal

The Pakistan Navy's frigate PNS Saif (FFG-253), under the command of Captain Shujaat Abbas Raja, has arrived at Chattogram Port in Bangladesh for a goodwill visit. This visit coincides with India's significant naval exercise, Trishul, which is taking place in the Bay of Bengal.

This visit aims to bolster naval diplomacy and enhance maritime cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh. It includes a range of professional exchanges, joint drills, and cultural interactions. The ship was greeted with a ceremonial welcome by senior officials from the Bangladesh Navy and other dignitaries, showcasing Dhaka's commitment to balanced defence relations with various regional navies.

PNS Saif, a Chinese-built Type 053H3 (F-22P) frigate, is equipped with advanced anti-ship and anti-air missile systems, representing a significant element of Pakistan's frontline combat capabilities. This deployment is part of Pakistan's regular missions abroad to reinforce bilateral naval ties and assert its presence in the region.

While docked, the crew is scheduled to engage with Bangladesh Navy leaders, share tactical knowledge, and partake in joint maritime security and communication drills. Cultural engagements and outreach activities are also on the agenda to promote goodwill and strengthen people-to-people connections.

Experts observe that the timing of this visit, which aligns with India's Exercise Trishul involving various naval assets, highlights the strategic elements of regional maritime diplomacy in the Bay of Bengal.

Bangladesh continues to maintain strong defence cooperation with both India and China, adhering to a diversified maritime engagement policy. Hosting PNS Saif illustrates Dhaka's initiative to expand its operational experience and maintain an independent, balanced naval outreach approach.

The visit of PNS Saif will conclude with a farewell ceremony and joint drills, representing another chapter in the evolving maritime diplomacy of South Asia and the intricate balance of naval power in the Indian Ocean region.
