OTA Chennai Passing Out Parade Set for September 5, 2026

Chennai’s Officers Training Academy (OTA) is preparing for one of its most important annual ceremonies, with the Passing Out Parade scheduled for September 5, 2026. The event will mark the completion of months of training for Officer Cadets who are set to be commissioned into the Indian Army.

Army Training Command (ARTRAC) has already begun the countdown to the parade, describing it as the final stage in the cadets’ transition from trainees to military leaders. In its announcement, ARTRAC said the cadets are preparing to take the traditional “Antim Pag” — the final step across the academy’s hallowed portals before they assume the responsibilities that come with wearing the stars of an Army officer.

The Passing Out Parade is among the most important occasions in the OTA Chennai calendar. It represents the culmination of intensive military instruction intended to shape leadership, discipline, physical endurance, tactical competence and character in future officers of the Indian Army.

For the Officer Cadets, September 5 will be the day they march together for the last time at the academy, demonstrating the precision, discipline and military bearing built through training. For their families, too, the parade will mark a formal and emotional shift as the cadets move from trainee status to commissioned service.

The ceremony traditionally brings together immaculate drill, military music and the formal customs associated with the commissioning of Army officers. Once the parade and the related commissioning formalities are completed, the newly commissioned officers will move on to different arms and services of the Indian Army.

OTA Chennai is one of the Indian Army’s premier officer-training institutions and is especially known for preparing officers for the Short Service Commission. The academy also occupies a notable place in the history of women’s service in the armed forces, as the first batch of women cadets entered OTA Chennai in 1992.

The academy’s 2025 Passing Out Parade, held on September 6 that year, saw 155 Officer Cadets, including 25 women, commissioned into the Indian Army. In addition, 21 Officer Cadets, including 12 women, from nine friendly foreign countries completed their training. The parade was reviewed by Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh.

That ceremony was conducted at the historic Parameswaran Drill Square and was followed by the traditional Pipping Ceremony, when the newly commissioned officers received their stars on their shoulders and formally began their military careers.

As the September 5, 2026 parade approaches, anticipation is building at OTA Chennai for another batch of cadets preparing to march past the academy for the final time. For them, the event will be both a ceremonial farewell to training life and the first step into commissioned service in the Indian Army, with ARTRAC describing the occasion as a display of “pride, precision” and the final move towards becoming military leaders.
