OTA Chennai Passing Out Parade: 342 Cadets Commissioned into Indian Army, Admiral Krishna Swaminathan Reviews Parade
Chennai, September 5, 2026: The Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, on Saturday commissioned 342 Officer Cadets into the Indian Army after conducting the Passing Out Parade for the SSC-122 and SSC (Women)-36 courses. Among the new officers were 29 women, while 17 Officer Cadets from Friendly Foreign Countries also completed their training at the academy.
The parade was reviewed by Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), and brought to a close months of intensive military training for the cadets. For the graduating batch, the ceremony marked the transition from officer cadets to commissioned officers who will now take up leadership roles in the Army.
The passing-out contingent reflected both the scale of India’s officer induction and the continuing presence of women in the Army’s leadership pipeline. The 342 Indian cadets commissioned on the day will join different arms and services of the Indian Army as they begin active service. The foreign cadets included 10 women, underlining the international character of the academy’s training environment.
OTA Chennai also used the occasion to highlight its role in defence cooperation with partner nations. The successful graduation of the foreign cadets alongside their Indian counterparts pointed to the academy’s long-standing training ties and camaraderie with friendly foreign countries.
During the review, Admiral Swaminathan congratulated the cadets and their parents on reaching the milestone. He spoke about the honour and responsibility that come with service in the Armed Forces, especially the duty of leading troops in the service of the nation.
The Chief of the Naval Staff also urged the newly commissioned officers to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, courage and commitment throughout their careers. His remarks came as the cadets completed the final march past, one of the defining moments of the OTA experience.
The Passing Out Parade is among the most important milestones in the life of an Officer Cadet at OTA Chennai. After completing the academy’s demanding training programme, the cadets marched past the reviewing officer before taking their final steps as trainees and formally entering commissioned service.
With the commissioning of 342 new officers, including women cadets and trainees from friendly foreign countries, the September 2026 parade added another chapter to OTA Chennai’s record of preparing military leaders for service with honour and commitment.
