OTA Chennai Officer Cadets Awarded Diplomas in IT and Cyber Security by SRM

All officer cadets of the passing-out course at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, received diplomas in Information Technology and Cyber Security from the SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, on August 14, 2026.

The awards were presented under an existing Memorandum of Understanding between SRM Institute of Science and Technology and OTA Chennai, which allows cadets to pursue specialised academic exposure alongside their military training. The arrangement is intended to give officer cadets formal grounding in information technology and cyber security while they continue their officer preparation at the academy.

The diplomas were conferred by Dr T R Paarivendhar, Chancellor, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, and Prof Dr C Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, in the presence of Lt Gen Michael AJ Fernandez, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Commandant, Officers Training Academy, Chennai.

The ceremony comes at a time when military institutions are placing greater emphasis on technology-related skills. Information technology and cyber security have become increasingly relevant to modern operations, where digital systems, networked platforms and cyber threats are now part of the operational environment faced by armed forces.

By offering cadets an additional qualification in these areas, the programme seeks to broaden their academic and professional preparation beyond conventional military subjects. The training exposure is meant to help future officers understand emerging technological challenges and adapt more effectively to technology-driven operational settings.
