NCB Chief Anurag Garg Assesses Anti-Drug Efforts and Rehabilitation Initiatives at Moreh Border
Anurag Garg, the Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), visited Moreh at the Indo-Myanmar border to evaluate strategies against drug trafficking and narcotics abuse. He was accompanied by the Deputy Director General of NCB for the North East Region and the Zonal Director of NCB Imphal.
During his visit, Garg examined the current border vigilance and anti-drug trafficking systems in the region. He conducted in-depth discussions with the Superintendent of Police of Tengnoupal district and the Commanding Officer of the Assam Rifles. These talks focused on enhancing collaboration among enforcement agencies to effectively address cross-border drug trafficking. The discussions highlighted the importance of intelligence sharing, coordinated operations, and maintaining vigilance on routes frequently used by drug syndicates.

As part of efforts to reduce demand for drugs, Anurag Garg visited a de-addiction centre operated by a non-governmental organization in Moreh. He engaged with both the staff and the inmates, commending their efforts and resilience in overcoming addiction challenges. Garg urged the inmates to act as ambassadors of change by utilizing their personal journeys to raise awareness about the risks of drug abuse and the value of early intervention and rehabilitation.

The visit highlighted the NCB’s comprehensive approach in combating drug issues, balancing supply reduction, border vigilance, enforcement agency coordination, and demand reduction through rehabilitation and community involvement. It also reinforced the Indian Government’s commitment to securing border areas from narcotics trafficking while aiding the recovery and reintegration of affected individuals into society.
