Mizoram Governor Honors 20th Battalion Assam Rifles with Governor's Unit Citation
Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd.), honored the 20th Battalion, Assam Rifles, with the Governor's Unit Citation. This accolade was awarded in recognition of the battalion's exceptional service, bravery, and unwavering dedication to the nation and the people of Mizoram.
The award was presented during an Investiture Ceremony at the Durbar Hall, Lok Bhavan, where the Governor praised the battalion for its outstanding operational achievements during its tenure in the state.

In his speech, the Governor commended the battalion's proactive efforts in safeguarding the Indo-Myanmar border amidst complex security challenges. He acknowledged its effective collaboration with security and civil agencies in combating narcotics smuggling, illegal cross-border activities, and other transnational threats, while maintaining a high level of operational preparedness.
General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh further praised the battalion for building strong relationships with local communities through various Civic Action Programmes. He referred to the Assam Rifles as the "Sentinels of the North East" and "Friends of the Hills," highlighting the unit's role in enhancing civil-military relations and exemplifying the force's enduring principles of Seva, Suraksha and Bandhutva (Service, Security, and Fraternity).

The Governor expressed confidence in the battalion's continued tradition of dedicated service and encouraged all ranks to uphold the proud legacy and reputation of the Assam Rifles in protecting the nation's borders and serving local communities.
The event was attended by Brigadier Puspendar Sorayan, Deputy Inspector General, 23 Sector Assam Rifles; Shri Krashnendra Singh, Chief Engineer, Pushpak; Colonel Jaswinder Singh, SM, Commandant, 20th Battalion Assam Rifles; along with senior officers and personnel of the force.

Stationed at Lunglawn, Lunglei, under the 23 Sector Headquarters Assam Rifles in Aizawl, the 20th Battalion Assam Rifles was deployed from 12 November 2023 to 19 March 2026. During this period, it made significant contributions to border security, counter-smuggling operations, and community outreach throughout the region.
The Governor's Unit Citation serves as a testament to the battalion's operational excellence, professionalism, and dedicated service in enhancing security and promoting peace and development in Mizoram.
