Meet IPS Mohibullah Ansari: Failed Pre-Boards, Studied at IIT Delhi, Cracked UPSC and Now Set to Receive US Honour
Mohibullah Ansari, a 2021-batch Indian Police Service officer of the Bihar cadre, is set to receive the Asian Hero Award 2026 in the United States, marking another milestone in a journey that began with academic setbacks and eventually took him through IIT Delhi, the UPSC Civil Services Examination and a career in policing.
Ansari, who is currently serving as City Superintendent of Police in Muzaffarpur, is scheduled to be honoured on 13 December 2026 during the seventh World Fair and Festival in Tampa, Florida. The award will be presented by the Association of World Fair and Fest USA Inc at the Sheraton Tampa Brandon Hotel.
According to the organisers and media reports, the recognition has been given for his contribution to policing, public service, leadership, integrity and social welfare. An official communication from the association’s founder and president, Tarek Mahmood, also invited Ansari to attend the event as a special guest.
Ansari belongs to Siwan district in Bihar. Owing to his father’s transferable job, he completed parts of his early schooling in Darbhanga and later pursued his higher secondary education in Patna. In interviews, Ansari has spoken openly about not being an outstanding student during his school years and about failing the pre-board examinations in both Class 10 and Class 12.
His Class 12 pre-board result became an important turning point. After the poor performance, his father reportedly told him that he should first focus on securing a respectable passing percentage. Ansari has recalled that the remark pushed him to take his academics more seriously.
He subsequently focused on his board examinations while also preparing for engineering entrance tests. His efforts paid off when he cleared JEE Main and JEE Advanced. In 2011, he secured admission to the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where he pursued a Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering.
After completing his engineering degree, Ansari worked briefly in the information technology sector. However, he later decided to leave his job and prepare for the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination.
His journey to the civil services was not immediate. He faced unsuccessful attempts before eventually clearing the examination. In the Civil Services Examination 2020, Ansari secured All India Rank 389 and was allotted the Indian Police Service in the Bihar cadre. He subsequently became part of the 2021 IPS batch.
During his police career, Ansari has served in different assignments in Bihar, including postings in Patna. He is presently serving as City SP in Muzaffarpur, where he has been involved in law enforcement, public safety and administrative responsibilities.
The Asian Hero Award 2026 will give his work a platform outside India and recognise his contribution to public service. Reports surrounding the honour have also highlighted his reputation for integrity and commitment to policing.
The award is being conferred by a private US-based organisation associated with the World Fair and Festival and is separate from Ansari’s official responsibilities as an IPS officer.
From failing pre-board examinations to studying at IIT Delhi, clearing one of India’s toughest competitive examinations and serving in the Indian Police Service, Mohibullah Ansari’s journey has emerged as an example of how early academic setbacks do not necessarily determine future success. His recognition in the United States adds another chapter to a career shaped by persistence and public service.
