Major Jacqueline Dias Makes History With Prestigious RCS Edinburgh Fellowship
Major (Dr) Jacqueline Jacinta Dias of the Indian Army Dental Corps has achieved a historic professional milestone by becoming the first officer from the Corps to be awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. The distinction places the serving Army dental officer among professionals recognised by one of the world's oldest surgical institutions.
The Fellowship in Dental Surgery awarded through the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is an internationally recognised professional distinction in dentistry. It reflects high standards of clinical expertise, professional development and patient care, making Major Dias's achievement significant for the Army Dental Corps and Indian military dentistry.
Major Dias hails from Mapusa in Bardez, Goa, and comes from a family with a strong connection to the armed forces. She is the daughter of retired Indian Air Force officer Group Captain Joe Peter Matthew Dias and Anne Elizabeth Dias. Inspired by her father's military career, she chose to combine her profession in dentistry with service in uniform.
An accomplished dental professional, Major Dias was a gold medallist and university topper during her academic career. She later specialised in periodontics and joined the Army Dental Corps, where she has served in both clinical and leadership appointments.
Her career reached another important milestone in August 2025 when she was appointed Officer Commanding of the Indian Army Overseas Dental Institution in Bhutan. The overseas assignment entrusted her with responsibility for specialised dental services as well as administrative and leadership duties. The appointment also placed her in a role connected with the longstanding defence cooperation between India and Bhutan.
Her latest recognition adds an international professional distinction to an already notable military and academic career.
