MCTE Mhow and IIT Indore Collaborate on RASHTRIYA KARTAVYA 1.0 to Enhance Indigenous Defence Technology Development
The Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE) in Mhow, in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, hosted RASHTRIYA KARTAVYA 1.0 on August 5, 2026. This seminar aimed to bolster collaboration between the Indian Army and prominent academic institutions to develop technology-driven solutions for operational challenges faced by the military.
The event gathered military personnel, academics, researchers, and technology specialists to discuss the effective application of emerging technologies in meeting the evolving needs of the Armed Forces. The focus was on transforming operational problems identified in the field into practical, scalable, and indigenous technological solutions through ongoing collaboration between the Army and academia.
Maj Gen Gautam Mahajan, SM, who serves as the Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor at the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, addressed the attendees, stressing the importance of a comprehensive national approach to developing defense technology. He pointed out that frequent and closer interaction between the Armed Forces, academic institutions, research bodies, start-ups, and industry is vital for building advanced indigenous capabilities.
Maj Gen Mahajan emphasized that modern warfare is increasingly shaped by rapid advancements in telecommunications, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, autonomous systems, data analytics, electronic warfare, and other disruptive technologies. In this context, the ability to quickly identify operational requirements and convert innovative ideas into practical solutions is crucial for maintaining technological superiority.
RASHTRIYA KARTAVYA 1.0 was established to connect military users dealing with operational challenges with researchers who have the technical expertise to address these issues. By facilitating direct interactions among soldiers, officers, scientists, and students, the seminar aimed to ensure that technology development is closely aligned with actual field needs.
The collaboration between MCTE and IIT Indore is anticipated to encourage joint research, prototype development, and the testing and refinement of solutions that are relevant to the Armed Forces. Such partnerships can help shorten development timelines while giving academic researchers insight into the demanding operational conditions under which defense technologies must function.
The seminar also underscored the Indian Armed Forces' increasing focus on self-reliance and indigenous innovation.
