He completed his schooling at Sri Veena School in Nandini Layout, Bengaluru, and went on to pursue pre-university studies and a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Seshadripuram College. His college years were marked by active involvement in the National Cadet Corps, and he notably earned a gold medal for Karnataka at the Thal Sainik Camp in New Delhi.
The pivotal moment in his life was the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, which inspired him to join the armed forces. Driven by a desire to serve the country, he cleared the Services Selection Board and embarked on a military career.

Major Rakesh T.R. began his military journey as a Lieutenant on September 10, 2016, after completing his training at the prestigious Indian Military Academy.
