Major General Amit Singh Sohal Assumes Command of Purva UP & MP Sub Area
At a formal parade held at the New Military Station in Prayagraj, Major General Amit Singh Sohal, recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), formally took up his role as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) for the Purva Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Sub Area.
Major General Sohal, an alumnus of the Corps of Engineers, began his military service in December 1990. Throughout his career, he has led commands in both the South Western and Eastern theatres and has served with distinction on a United Nations Mission in Lebanon, gaining significant international experience.

During his address to the troops at the ceremony, General Sohal highlighted the importance of professionalism, integrity, and dedication as vital principles for his command. Under his leadership, there is an expectation of enhanced operational readiness, improved administrative processes, and greater welfare for veterans in this strategically pivotal region.
The Corps of Engineers, known for its long-standing tradition of combat support and engineering prowess, remains a vital part of the Indian Army. Major General Sohal’s new role further cements Prayagraj’s reputation as a key military center.
Previously, in March 2024, Prayagraj was the venue for the Northern Command Investiture Ceremony, where soldiers were honored for their bravery and distinguished service, underscoring the region’s important role in India’s defense strategy.
