Maj Gen Vivek Tyagi Engages with Nitin Gadkari for Enhancing NCC Infrastructure in Maharashtra

Major General Vivek Tyagi, serving as the Additional Director General of the NCC Maharashtra Directorate, met with India's Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, during an inspection visit to Nagpur on May 1, 2026. This meeting highlighted efforts by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to extend its reach into the remote areas of Vidarbha.

In their discussion, Maj Gen Tyagi conveyed greetings on Maharashtra Day and outlined the significant contributions of NCC cadets in nation-building. He stressed their involvement in community development initiatives such as road safety, anti-drug campaigns, and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which align with the larger vision of a “Viksit Bharat.”

During the meeting, a primary topic was the enhancement of NCC infrastructure within the state. Maj Gen Tyagi requested the Minister's assistance in establishing dedicated facilities in Nagpur, Mumbai, and Kolhapur, with a proposed State Academy in Nagpur to boost training capacity and outreach.

Minister Gadkari responded positively, applauding the NCC's crucial role in empowering youth and building character. He pledged his ministry's full support to improve infrastructure and create more opportunities for cadets across Maharashtra.

The meeting was attended by Group Captain Kushal Vyas, the NCC Group Commander, and Lieutenant Colonel Ameey Kanade, Training Officer for the NCC Group in Nagpur.

As part of his visit, Maj Gen Tyagi also toured the Officers Training Academy (OTA) NCC at Kamptee. He reviewed the academy's training modules and learned about ongoing reforms aimed at modernizing the training for NCC instructors. This visit underscored the transformative restructuring efforts by the NCC Headquarters to enhance the organization's effectiveness.

The interaction represents a significant move towards strengthening the NCC’s institutional framework in Maharashtra, especially in underserved areas, while underscoring its role in cultivating disciplined and socially responsible youth.
