Maj Gen Naveen Kumar Thapliyal Takes Command of MILIT Pune

Major General Naveen Kumar Thapliyal took over as the leader of the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) in Pune on June 1, 2026, following the tenure of Rear Admiral V Ganapathy.

This transition signifies an important moment for the esteemed tri-services institute, which is crucial for the Indian Armed Forces in terms of professional military education, technological innovations, and capability enhancements.

Maj Gen Thapliyal, an esteemed officer from the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers, arrives with a wealth of operational, technical, and administrative expertise acquired over a notable military career.

Throughout his distinguished service, he has held numerous important positions, including Commanding Officer of an EME Battalion, Brigadier Military Secretary at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army), Major General EME for Central Command, and most recently as Chief of Staff at Headquarters 101 Area.

An alumnus of the National Defence College, the College of Defence Management, and MILIT itself, Maj Gen Thapliyal's new role is a return to an institution that has been instrumental in his career development.

Authorities have highlighted Maj Gen Thapliyal's vast experience in military technology, logistics, personnel management, and operational planning, which is expected to enhance MILIT’s mission of preparing officers for future warfare challenges.
