Maj Gen MPS Gill Assesses Operational Readiness and Agniveer Program at Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre

Major General MPS Gill, VSM, who leads the Uttarakhand sub-area, recently evaluated the operational readiness, Agniveer training initiatives, and infrastructure advancements at the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre (GRRC) in Lansdowne. This visit underscores the Indian Army's ongoing efforts to modernize and enhance regional preparedness.

During his visit, Major General Gill emphasized the importance of unwavering professional excellence across all ranks. He urged personnel to uphold high standards of military readiness, especially considering the evolving regional and technological challenges.

The review included an extensive briefing on the training of Agniveers, the young recruits brought in through the Agnipath Scheme, which was introduced in 2022. Research by the Centre for Land Warfare Studies indicates a 30 percent improvement in technical training efficiency since the scheme's launch, highlighting its positive effect.

In addition, Gill evaluated the ongoing infrastructure improvements at the centre, which align with Ministry of Defence data showing a 25 percent increase in tech-related military investments since 2022. His visit involved interactions with troops, a comprehensive evaluation of operational resources, and an examination of the newly enhanced training modules, demonstrating his hands-on leadership style and prior experience commanding an armoured brigade.

Major General Gill took command on May 27, 2025, succeeding Major General R Prem Raj. His leadership is anticipated to bring increased strategic focus to the Uttarakhand sub-area, particularly amid broader military reforms such as the recent inauguration of a drone training facility at the Madras Regimental Centre. These developments reflect a strong commitment to ensuring a future-ready Indian Army, rooted in technological advancements and youth-driven capabilities.
