Maj Gen MPS Gill Assesses Defence PR Unit in Dehradun, Highlights Strategic Communication and Infrastructure Growth
Major General M P S Gill, VSM, who serves as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Uttarakhand Sub Area, conducted an official visit to the Public Relations Unit (PRU) in Dehradun today. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the advancements in operational infrastructure and strategic communication initiatives. The unit was recently transferred from Imphal, Manipur, with the objective of bolstering regional outreach and media coordination efforts in Uttarakhand, a state gaining significance due to its border with China.

During the visit, the GOC received a briefing on the significant developments that have occurred since the relocation of the unit. These include the implementation of modern communication systems and the enhancement of facilities to facilitate prompt and effective public messaging by the Army. Major General Gill commended the personnel for their dedication and encouraged ongoing professionalism to achieve national goals. The visit also served to reinforce the Indian Army's commitment to a forward-thinking communication strategy that is in sync with changing security requirements and geopolitical challenges.

This visit by Major General Gill comes after his previous review of welfare and healthcare services at Raiwala Military Station. That inspection focused on evaluating the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), which has experienced a 15% expansion in services across its 427 polyclinics nationwide. This review aligns with the Army's broader mission to improve soldier welfare and veteran care as part of its ongoing "Year of Reforms."
The inspection also reflects a global trend where defense forces are placing greater emphasis on strategic public engagement. With nations such as the US and UK having significantly increased their defense public relations budgets over the past decade, India's emphasis on infrastructure-supported communication units is regarded as an essential step in strengthening its presence in the Indo-Pacific region.

The visit concluded with Major General Gill expressing his confidence in the unit's direction and underscoring the importance of proactive media engagement in protecting national interests.
