Maj Gen Gill Evaluates Welfare and Healthcare Programs at Raiwala Military Station

Major General M P S Gill, VSM, who is the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Uttarakhand Sub Area, paid an official visit to Raiwala Military Station to evaluate significant welfare and healthcare programs designed for troops and veterans.

During his visit, Maj Gen Gill engaged in comprehensive discussions with Brigadier V Tyagi, the Station Commander of Raiwala. Their talks centered around land management, operational readiness, and community support. A key focus of the visit was a thorough review of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), a crucial healthcare system for retired armed forces personnel and their families.

Maj Gen Gill reiterated the Army's dedication to improving healthcare standards and commended the local implementation of the ECHS. Since its inception in 2004, the program has grown to encompass 427 polyclinics throughout India and continues to make progress. A report from the Armed Forces Medical Journal in 2019 highlighted a 15% increase in veteran satisfaction, attributed mainly to enhanced medical service access.

Throughout his visit, the GOC expressed appreciation for the efforts of all ranks stationed at Raiwala, urging them to maintain professionalism and dedication. His visit was also significant in terms of leadership continuity, as he assumed command of the Uttarakhand Sub Area in May 2025, following Major General R Prem Raj.

An experienced officer, Maj Gen Gill is a graduate of RIMC, NDA, and IMA. His illustrious career features commanding a Mechanised Infantry Battalion and an armoured brigade on the western front.

The visit also shed light on the enduring legacy of the Tyagi family in India's military history. Brig V Tyagi's leadership reflects the contributions of his family, particularly Air Chief Marshal Shashindra Pal Tyagi, who played a significant role during his time as Chief of the Air Staff.

Maj Gen Gill’s visit to Raiwala highlights the Army's comprehensive approach to enhancing operational efficiency and personnel welfare, setting a notable example for future leadership.
