Madhya Pradesh Police QRF Clears Stalled Truck from Sagar Railway Tracks, Averts Accident
A serious rail accident was narrowly avoided at the Makronia-Guda railway crossing in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday, August 9, 2026, after a fully loaded goods truck broke down in the middle of the tracks just as a train was approaching. Personnel of the 10th Battalion Special Armed Forces (SAF) Quick Response Team, who were passing through the area on official duty, stepped in immediately and, with help from local residents, pushed the stranded vehicle clear within minutes.
The incident took place at the Guda railway gate on the Bina-Katni route. According to the account that later emerged, the truck was crossing the tracks when it suffered a technical failure, reportedly linked to the battery supply line. The vehicle stalled midway and would not restart, leaving the driver stranded on the tracks at a moment of growing danger.
The risk escalated quickly because railway signals had turned green from both directions, indicating approaching train movement. In those moments, the possibility of a collision involving the truck, its driver and an incoming goods train became alarmingly real, raising the prospect of major damage and loss of life.
At the same time, a QRF company of the 10th Battalion SAF, Sagar, was travelling through the area on its way to Damoh for law-and-order deployment at the Bandakpur temple, also referred to as Shiv Mandir. As the personnel noticed the truck stranded on the tracks, they recognised the urgency of the situation, got down from their vehicle and moved to clear the obstruction without delay.
Joined by people present at the crossing, the team began physically pushing the heavily laden truck off the railway line. The combined effort succeeded in shifting the vehicle to a safe distance in about five minutes, clearing the track before the train reached the crossing.
Video of the rescue, later circulated widely and amplified by the Madhya Pradesh Police, shows the urgency of the operation. In the footage, SAF personnel and civilians can be seen straining to move the truck while speaking to the visibly shaken driver. The vehicle is eventually pushed free, after which a train is seen approaching and the railway crossing gate closes as it nears.
One exchange captured on video reflected how close the situation had come to disaster. A police personnel told the driver, “Aapki kismat achhi thi ki hum is side se gaye” (You were lucky that we passed from this side). The driver replied, “Bhagwan jab bhejta hai, toh aise hi bhejta hai” (When God sends someone, He sends them like this). The jawans also calmed the driver and advised him to be more careful in future.
Makronia police station in-charge Nitin Pal confirmed the sequence of events. He said the truck became stuck at the Guda railway gate on the Bina-Katni route because of technical reasons, and that QRF personnel and police who were present on the spot pushed it clear in roughly five minutes. He added that, at the time of the initial reports, no formal application had been received from railway authorities, and any further action would be taken if required.
The response also drew praise from Sagar Superintendent of Police Anurag Sujania, an IPS officer of the 2014 batch, who also holds responsibilities linked to the 10th Battalion. He said the incident showed that police personnel are not limited to crime control and law-and-order duties, but also act in the service of the public and the protection of life. He specifically commended the QRF jawans for their promptness, courage and teamwork.
The Madhya Pradesh Police’s official social media handle also highlighted the intervention, saying the presence of mind and swift action of the 10th Battalion QRF company prevented a possible major accident at the Makronia-Guda railway gate. The post noted that the unit had been heading to Damoh for duty when the truck broke down on the tracks and that the path was cleared even as signals indicated trains were approaching from both directions.
The Special Armed Forces are a specialised wing of the Madhya Pradesh Police, and their Quick Response Team or Quick Reaction Force units are trained to respond rapidly in emergencies, law-and-order situations and other high-risk scenarios. In this case, what began as routine movement for a temple-related deployment turned into an emergency intervention on a live railway crossing.
The episode underlined the value of alertness during transit as much as during assigned deployment. The personnel were not stationed at the crossing, nor were they responding to a pre-alerted emergency. Their intervention came because they spotted the danger in time, assessed the risk correctly and acted immediately, while coordinating with civilians already at the scene.
No injuries or casualties were reported. After the truck was removed and the track cleared, normal rail movement resumed once the approaching train had passed. The incident has since drawn appreciation across platforms for the public-facing response of the 10th Battalion QRF personnel, whose unplanned intervention prevented what could have become a major collision between a loaded truck and a train.
For the team, the day’s assigned task was maintaining law and order in Damoh. At the Makronia-Guda crossing in Sagar, however, that journey briefly turned into a life-saving operation in which a narrow margin and a rapid response made all the difference.
