Lt Keshav Dutt from Rehan: Transition from Naib Subedar to Commissioned Officer in Indian Army's Corps of Signals

Keshav Dutt, a 33-year-old from Rod village in Rehan, Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, has been commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army’s Corps of Signals. This achievement follows his successful completion of officer training at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun.

The pipping ceremony was a significant moment for Keshav, his family, and his community. It marked his transition from the Junior Commissioned Officer ranks to becoming a commissioned officer.

From Jawan to Commissioned Officer

Prior to his commission, Lt Keshav Dutt served as a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army, having joined as a jawan in 2011. His journey began with the ambition to eventually become a commissioned officer.

Despite the challenges of active service, he remained focused on his long-term goal, demonstrating that determination can overcome obstacles.

Education and Technical Excellence

Keshav completed his Class XII education at Government Senior Secondary School, Rehan. While in the Army, he pursued further education, earning a Diploma in Electronics and Communication from the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, in 2023.

This technical expertise was instrumental in his future endeavors within the Army’s communication and signals sector.

Clearing SSB and Achieving Permanent Commission

In pursuit of a Permanent Commission, Keshav attempted the Technical Officers Entry through the Service Selection Board. After two unsuccessful tries, he passed on his third attempt in May 2025, exemplifying resilience and mental strength, key attributes of military leadership.

Following four months of intensive training at the Indian Military Academy, he was appointed as a Lieutenant in the Corps of Signals, recognized for its advanced technical capabilities within the Army.

Posting and Family Legacy

Lt Keshav Dutt is scheduled to join his new unit at Jalandhar Cantonment on December 26, 2025. Continuing the family tradition, his younger brother also serves in the Indian Army, reflecting a shared commitment to national service.

His achievement has been a source of pride for the residents of Rehan and its surrounding areas, serving as proof of what can be achieved through dedication and hard work.
