Director General of the National Cadet Corps Lieutenant General Virendra Vats, YSM, SM, VSM, visited Group Headquarters NCC Pune along with the Additional Director General of the Maharashtra Directorate to review training initiatives, infrastructure, expansion plans and future-ready programmes being pursued by the organisation in the state.
During the visit, Lt Gen Vats met officers, instructors and cadets, and was briefed on a range of initiatives under the Maharashtra NCC Directorate. He praised the formation for its performance and acknowledged the achievements of its cadets.

A major point of pride highlighted during the interaction was the recognition of girl cadets from the Maharashtra Directorate as All India Best Cadet for three consecutive years. Lt Gen Vats appreciated the achievement as a reflection of the contribution and performance of girl cadets within the NCC.
The DG NCC was also briefed on new training initiatives, including Cyber Defender training and the integration of drone technology into NCC activities. In addition, he was informed about the challenges linked to the expansion of the NCC.

Lt Gen Vats stressed the need for a De-Novo approach to the NCC syllabus and called for future-ready skills to be built into cadet training. The interaction focused on Nari Shakti, cyber security, drone technology and disaster management as key areas of emphasis.
He also underlined the importance of skill development and youth-led nation building, linking these priorities to the larger objective of preparing young people with relevant capabilities for the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The focus on cyber security and drone technology reflects the NCC’s effort to familiarise cadets with emerging technologies, while disaster management continues to be treated as a core area for national service and community support.
Nari Shakti was also highlighted as an important theme, alongside the continued participation and development of girl cadets. The Maharashtra NCC girl cadets’ record of receiving All India Best Cadet honours for three consecutive years featured prominently in the DG NCC’s interaction with the fraternity.

The visit also offered an opportunity to review the training infrastructure and expansion plans of the NCC in Maharashtra. Lt Gen Vats emphasised the need for quality training and future-ready skills while engaging with personnel and cadets.
The interaction in Pune concluded with a renewed focus on quality training, skill development and youth-led nation building, with the Maharashtra NCC fraternity drawing encouragement from the DG NCC’s guidance.
