Lt Gen Sandeep Singh Appointed Commandant of Officers Training Academy, Gaya
Lieutenant General Sandeep Singh, AVSM, has assumed the role of Commandant at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Gaya, marking a new chapter of leadership at one of the Indian Army’s premier pre-commission training facilities. Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command, along with all ranks from ARTRAC, extended their congratulations to Lt Gen Sandeep Singh on his prestigious appointment.
The Officers Training Academy in Gaya is pivotal in shaping officer cadets for commissioned roles in the Indian Army, with an emphasis on instilling discipline, leadership, physical endurance, military ethics, and professional excellence. The new Commandant is expected to enhance the academy’s training framework, continuing its mission to develop future military leaders.
Upon taking charge, Lieutenant General R.S. Sundaram, SM, VSM, who is the Director General of Recruiting, engaged in discussions with Lt Gen Sandeep Singh at OTA Gaya. Their talks centered on the quality, expectations, and aspirations of the candidates entering the Armed Forces, particularly in light of the changing dynamics and ambitions of the Gen-Z cohort joining military service.
The conversations aimed at fortifying the recruitment and induction processes to ensure the Army consistently selects and nurtures high-potential officer cadets. The focus was on maintaining a recruitment process that is transparent, efficient, and candidate-friendly, in alignment with the evolving profiles of young applicants eager to join the Armed Forces.
During his visit, Lt Gen R.S. Sundaram also conducted an interactive session with officer cadets at the academy. This session allowed cadets to provide firsthand accounts of their experiences throughout the recruitment and induction phases, including the online application process, Services Selection Board evaluation, and their arrival at the Pre-Commission Training Academy.
The interaction served to identify challenges encountered by candidates at various stages and facilitated constructive discussions on measures to streamline procedures further. The insights gained from cadets are expected to inform improvements across the candidate experience, from initial registration through to final induction into training.
This initiative underscores the Directorate General of Recruiting’s commitment to enhancing candidate-centric processes while upholding the high standards essential for officer selection in the Indian Army. By engaging directly with cadets and academy leadership, the Army seeks to ensure that future officer entrants undergo a seamless, motivating, and professional induction experience.
The tenure of Lt Gen Sandeep Singh as Commandant of OTA Gaya coincides with a period of adaptation within military training institutions, which are responding to new generational expectations, advancing technologies, and the demands of future battlefields. The academy remains crucial in transforming young cadets into competent, disciplined, and value-oriented officers for the Indian Army.
