Lt Gen RS Sundaram, SM, VSM, Director General Recruiting, Indian Army, visited Headquarters Recruiting Zone, Chennai, on August 20, 2026, to review recruitment operations and outreach efforts being carried out in the area under ZRO Chennai.

The visit centred on how the Recruiting Zone is trying to connect with young people across the region, inform them about opportunities in the Indian Army and encourage eligible candidates to take part in the recruitment process. Lt Gen Sundaram was briefed on the range of initiatives being implemented to improve awareness and inspire youth to consider military service as a career.

The zone has been working through both grassroots outreach and digital platforms to widen its reach among potential recruits. These efforts are being carried out in close coordination with the civil administration so that information on recruitment procedures and opportunities can reach eligible candidates across the region more effectively.

During the review, the Director General Recruiting appreciated the coordinated efforts of ZRO Chennai in strengthening engagement with youth and improving awareness of the recruitment process. He also urged continued work to ensure greater participation of eligible candidates in Indian Army recruitment rallies.

As part of the visit, Lt Gen Sundaram met Dr M Sai Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary, Tamil Nadu, and Dr Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu. Their discussions focused on recruitment trends in the state and on measures that could help maximise the participation of eligible youth in the Army recruitment process.

The interaction underlined the role of coordination between the Indian Army and the civil administration in spreading awareness, improving access to recruitment-related information and encouraging motivated young people to pursue a career in the Armed Forces.

The visit also reflected the Army’s broader emphasis on transparent recruitment, wider outreach and direct engagement with young people across the country as it seeks to attract the best available talent.
