Lt Gen Pratik Sharma Reviews BRO Strategic Infrastructure Projects in Northern Command

Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, SYSM, PVSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command, visited Headquarters Directorate General Border Roads (HQ DGBR) on August 13, 2026, to assess the progress of strategic infrastructure works and review key initiatives being executed in the Northern Command area.

The visit focused on infrastructure projects intended to improve operational preparedness, strengthen strategic connectivity and ensure all-weather access across some of India’s most difficult and strategically sensitive terrain. During the briefing, Lt Gen Sharma was updated on the status of major works being undertaken to support military mobility and sustain deployments in remote areas.

Officials outlined the development of critical infrastructure designed to improve connectivity and facilitate the movement of troops, equipment and essential supplies through difficult terrain. These projects, being executed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), are aimed at expanding the operational reach and readiness of formations deployed under Northern Command.

The review underscored the direct link between road and infrastructure development and military preparedness in the northern theatre, where geography, weather and access conditions can complicate both movement and sustained deployment. In such areas, dependable connectivity is central not only to logistics but also to the armed forces’ ability to respond quickly and maintain operational continuity.

During the visit, Lt Gen Sharma also met BRO Karmayogis engaged in the organisation’s infrastructure development efforts. He commended them for their courage, dedication, indomitable spirit and selfless commitment to duty, particularly given the demanding conditions and remote locations in which they work.

The Northern Command chief emphasised that every BRO Karmayogi contributes in an important way to strengthening the operational reach of the armed forces. He noted that infrastructure created in challenging regions does more than improve connectivity; it directly supports formations in maintaining sustained operational readiness.

His interaction with BRO personnel also served as a morale boost, encouraging them to continue their work with greater determination and resolve in national service. The engagement reflected the Army’s recognition of the role played by frontline infrastructure workers in enabling military operations in high-altitude and hard-to-access areas.

The visit also highlighted the broader importance of the BRO’s work in the Northern Command zone. With the region marked by difficult terrain, extreme weather and challenging access conditions, roads and related infrastructure remain essential for rapid movement, dependable supply lines and sustained force deployment.

The Border Roads Organisation continues to play a central role in building and maintaining such infrastructure, serving both national connectivity needs and the operational requirements of the armed forces in strategically important areas.
