Lt Gen Pratik Sharma Briefs Higher Air Command Course Officers at Northern Command, Udhampur

Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Army Commander of Northern Command, briefed Student Officers of the Higher Air Command Course during their visit to Headquarters Northern Command at Udhampur, offering them a close look at operational art and the conduct of contemporary military operations in a demanding theatre.

The interaction centred on the prevailing security environment and the operational imperatives confronting the Command. The officers were taken through the counter-terrorism situation, the dynamics in the hinterland and the broader challenges of maintaining security across a complex operational landscape.

They were also briefed on operational logistics, the absorption of technology and capability development. The discussions highlighted the need to integrate emerging technologies into military planning and to strengthen capabilities in step with changing security requirements.

Lt Gen Sharma placed particular emphasis on jointness and synergy among the three Services, underlining their importance in today’s warfare. He spoke about the operational value of coordinated action and integrated planning, especially in the context of lessons drawn from Operation Sindoor.

According to the Army Commander, effective inter-Service coordination, backed by complementary capabilities, can improve operational effectiveness and help produce decisive results in complex military operations.

For the Higher Air Command Course participants, the visit provided a direct link between professional military education and field realities. It also gave them a clearer understanding of the challenges faced by formations operating in the Northern Command theatre.
