Lt Gen Mohit Wadha Conducts Review of Agniveer Recruitment Drive in Patiala

On Wednesday, Lt General Mohit Wadha, Chief of Staff of the Indian Army's Western Command, made a visit to Patiala to oversee the Agniveer Recruitment Rally. This event, orchestrated by the Zonal Recruiting Office (ZRO) Jalandhar in association with the Kharga Corps, Airawat Division, and local District Administration, has attracted a large number of young aspirants ready to join the Agnipath scheme and serve the nation.

The Agniveer recruitment model, introduced in 2022, is designed to recruit nearly 46,000 young soldiers into the armed forces every year for a four-year service period. This initiative marks a pivotal change from traditional long-term recruitment methods and aims to bring in a younger, more technologically savvy military workforce.

During his visit, Lt General Wadha evaluated the administrative and logistical arrangements of the rally, which included digital registration systems and physical assessment areas. He commended the outstanding coordination between military units and civil authorities, acknowledging their joint efforts in ensuring a recruitment process that is transparent, efficient, and fair.

The Western Command, based in Chandimandir, Haryana, is responsible for safeguarding India's western frontiers, particularly with Pakistan. Since its establishment in 1947, the Command has been integral to several key military operations, including the 1971 war, and remains a crucial component of India's defense strategy.

The visit by Lt Gen Wadha highlights the Army's commitment to transparency, professionalism, and engaging the youth. The significant turnout at the Patiala rally indicates a growing interest among Indian youth in defense careers—a development the Army views as vital for maintaining readiness amid a rapidly evolving security environment.

Currently, with over 43,000 officers in service, the Indian Army considers the Agnipath scheme crucial for transforming its future force structure by integrating youthful enthusiasm with operational excellence.
